 About Me

I graduated from McGuffey High School in 1979 and like many students at that time I was uncertain just what to do with my life. I spent that summer working in Florida trying to figure it out. Later that year I returned home and enlisted in the Pennsylvania Army Reserve National Guard. I felt a need to serve my country but also was presented with an opportunity to acquire my own business. By joining the reserves I could achieve both of these goals. I purchased a Newspaper distributorship in Washington, PA that I operated successfully for the next 13 years. In 1982 I married Helen, my wife of nearly 28 years now and we started a family. Helen enrolled at the Washington Hospital School of Nursing in their registered nursing program in 1987 as a full-time student, graduating in 1989. I often gave thought to attending college myself to become a teacher but never seemed to find the time with the family and business keeping me quite busy. In January of 1995 I finally made the commitment and enrolled at California University of PA in their Technology Education program. For the next 3.5 years I was a full-time student graduating in May of 1998 Summa Cum Laude. During this time, I also started a part-time business building, upgrading and repairing computers to help make ends meet. I was hired as a Technology Education teacher the summer after graduation by Mapletown High School. During that year I setup a computer lab that I taught technology classes in as well as running a wood and metal shop program. It was great experience for me and although I enjoyed what I was teaching and the people I worked with, I was driving 120 miles roundtrip each day. The following summer when I was offered a job at McGuffey Middle School (only 3 miles from my home) teaching technology classes I accepted. I am currently in my eleventh year at McGuffey School District teaching in the high school now and still enjoy my job and working the students. During my first two years at McGuffey, I taught Wood and Metal Production in the middle school and Computer Technology I & II in the high school. Currently I am teaching Architectural Design and Mechanical Design classes using AutoCAD 2009. I also teach Wood Technology I & II and in the past taught Digital Photography classes. I still maintain my computer business on a part-time basis which allows me to maintain my knowledge and skills in computer repairs, web design and networking.

Helen and I have three children all of which have graduated from McGuffey High School. My oldest son CJ is serving in the US Navy in his 14th year. James, who is 25, loves music and currently is still trying to figure what he wants to be when he grows up. My daughter, Tiffany, is currently finishing her Master's degree at the University of New Mexico where she received her undergraduate degree in Astrophysics. With our children all gone from home and our love for the west, Helen and I have been contemplating moving west. We are in search of a healthier and sunnier climate where we can enjoy the outdoors riding horses and bikes, hiking and camping.
